Benefits
Parent and child classes are developed using in-depth background knowledge of typical milestone and motor development. They serve to nurture and support babies through the critical first year of their life when they gain so many important skills like creeping, crawling, walking, playing and interacting with their environment and their loved ones. These skills lay the foundation for more important, advanced motor skills like jumping, hopping, running, climbing and engaging in sports when older. The parent-child interaction fosters and strengthens and relationship and increases the bonding between them. Children grow up to be more confident and independent individuals due to the feeling of security that they receive when they are babies. These classes also teach caregivers what to expect and how to deal with some of the the most common challenges that are faced in the first few months of parenthood. The social interaction with other parents and families also helps to decrease the feeling of loneliness and may help decrease the chances of postpartum depression in moms.
In this day of equipment, technology and device use, it is important that children do not lose their play skills or lose their ability to explore their environments. For children between 0-5 years play is their primary function. Parallel play and peer participation are extremely important and is the child's way to learn social interaction skills. This lays the foundation for team building and collaborative skills that are important during later stages of life.
Yoga poses and games help to build gross and fine motor strength, co-ordination, balance and endurance. They also help to improve core strength and posture. Balance poses and activities help to improve body awareness in space. By teaching them to identify and express their emotions and how they feel at an early age, you can teach children effective coping strategies to positively impact behavior and social performance. The effective use of breathing strategies can help children calm their little bodies and minds and function more effectively.
Research has shown that Yoga also helps with social-emotional learning and sensory regulation and improves children's ability to participate with peers in schools especially in children with the diagnosis of ASD and ADHD. Yoga and mindfulness also help to improve attention and focus, and thus help to boost school performance. Classes would be modified to meet the needs of children wearing braces or using other adaptive equipment like walkers, gait trainers and wheelchairs. Yoga for all!
Movement classes are full of age appropriate themes with music, fun games and stories woven in. Research has proven that children learn better and learn more when they are having fun.
